i love exploring, just picking a direction and seeing where it goes, maybe you spot a gap in the hedge with a bit of trail the other side and go for it, most of the time it ends and peters out, but sometimes you discover a real gem. so with that in mind this was just that sought of ride, headed down the canal to see where it went and what i could find, just after this long strung out “peleton of riders i stumbled across The Offchurch Greenway a disused rail track that has been surfaced for walkers and cyclists, so followed my nose furtherand along the canal, found a few possiblities for future rides (more to come later in the blog) and managed to come off the canal to come back down the greenway in a loop, sunny but cold

i invited Matt and Andy to try out the full Singletrackworld ride route and despite early morning rain we started in dry conditions, there was as you can see, lots of standing water, the route took in canals, parkland and bridleways, some of the field route were really heavy going and muddy, but we had a reward in mind….bacon butties at the highest point at the lovely Hatton cafe, so refuled (read bloated with pork, bread and tea) we did the final downhill stretch back to the start point
sadly i don’t think the route is varied or interesting enought for a guided ride especially as visiting riders have some fabulous riding on their dorrsteps and it would be a bit boring for them

as mentioned in an earlier post, there are sometimes rides organised by folks on Singlerackworld, so i thought i’d try out some routes if i was to organise a ride, this was the recce and as you can see, conditions were far from perfect as we had had plenty of rain in the preceeding days, this was just half the proposed route distance

early start to catch some light, locally, whilst there are quite a few bits of off road riding you need to connect them with sections of road, this shot is taken on one of the bridges over the M42 motorway, but it’s only seconds from some fun double/single track and bridleways
this became picture of the week on http://changeyourliferideabike.blogspot.com/ and i’m very proud of that!

reflections on a night ride

night ride again, funny how trails you ride often in daylight take on a completely different slant when ridden in the dark, plenty of strange noises and russlings from the undergrowth improve your sprinting technique!
long shutter used here combined with a reflection off the water, poor Matt is suffering from the “can you just do that one more time” requests from yours truly behind the camera

another night ride, acutally looking forward to them now, great frosty night and away from the lights from the town and street lamps the sky is stunning with super bright stars. here i added my own star messing with the “syncro flash” setting on the cam, did attempt to catch me jumping whilst the camera was on auto timer, but ti didn’t work out. Matt is holding the main reason for riding at night in winter…his home made blackcurrant vodka!
